Marcelo Bielsa could help Manchester United unlock their Jadon Sancho replacement

You don't have to go back far to a time when Jadon Sancho was paraded as somewhat of a bargain buy for Manchester United.

Instead of paying Dortmund's outrageous £107million valuation three years ago, they waited an extra summer to sign him, paying just £73m and saving £35m in the process.

Okay, so it wasn't a bargain by any means, but it was certainly viewed as good business at the time and provided justification for United's transfer policy.

Except they hadn't really saved any money. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had made signing a new right winger his priority for the summer, but having missed out on the deal for Sancho, they had to take drastic action on deadline day.

United had been keeping an eye on teenage duo Amad and Facundo Pellistri for a while and accelerated plans to sign them both amid the prospect of ending the window without reinforcing on the right. Instead of spending an extra £35m on Sancho, they committed to spending £46m on the duo instead.

It was quite clear neither of the youngsters would, at that stage, be ready to fill the right wing void, and there were some doubts about the nature of the transfers given United still retained a huge interest in Sancho.

Yet three years on, rather than being signed simply to appease the frustration at missing out on their top right wing target, it could be time for one of them to end up replacing him.

It is still uncertain what the future holds for Sancho, who will be certain to want to tell his side of the story at some point, but right now it feels like the best solution for all parties would be for him to have a fresh start somewhere else.
