Marcel Sabitzer has already told Manchester United of his preference over permanent move after injury blow

Manchester United have seen the last of on-loan Marcel Sabitzer this season but the midfielder may have already informed the Reds of his intentions regarding a permanent move.

United confirmed on Monday that Erik ten Hag will be without Sabitzer for the remainder of the season, with three Premier League games and an FA Cup final against Manchester City still to play. The 29-year-old finished the match at West Ham last weekend - a 1-0 defeat - but was not involved in Saturday's 2-0 win at home to Wolves.

Brought in swiftly after injury to Christian Eriksen, Sabitzer's loan deal does not include an option to buy come summer and his future beyond this season is uncertain. But as United and Bayern enter talks regarding his instant rehabilitation, the Austrian has already had his say.

Sabitzer enjoyed a prolific spell as a No.10 in April, assisting Marcus Rashford for the only goal in a 1-0 win over Brentford before netting twice himself in the 2-2 Europa League last-16 draw at home to Sevilla. It was shortly after that quick-fire brace that Sabitzer was quizzed on his future.

"This is initially a project until the summer, then we'll see," Sabitzer told BILD at the time. "Until then, I want to give everything here. It's a loan deal with no options; the situation will be assessed in the summer.

"But I can say for myself: I have found my place here. I know the Premier League now and I can say there is nothing better, more intense or tougher. Every game is a fight; everything goes faster. This is the best league in the world; once you've played here, you know it's incomparable here."
