Manuel Ugarte vs Sander Berge stats show Man United have obvious transfer decision to make

Erik ten Hag is keen to strengthen his Manchester United midfield before the end of the transfer window. United have had a busy summer so far, spending over £150million on four players.

Joshua Zirkzee arrived as their first recruit in a £36.5m deal from Bologna last month, before Leny Yoro signed from Lille in a deal worth around £59m. And on Tuesday, Noussair Mazraoui and Matthijs de Ligt joined United in a £60m double deal from Bayern Munich.

Having bolstered their front line and defensive unit, United are now expected to turn to looking for midfield reinforcements. Manuel Ugarte and Sander Berge have emerged as players United could sign as Ten Hag tries to add an extra piece of quality to their squad.

According to Fabrizio Romano, talks are still ongoing between Paris Saint-Germain and United over Ugarte. Jorge Mendes is leading negotiations with PSG open to selling and United keen on signing the midfielder. However, United do need the reported £51.4m asking price reduced or one more sale to fund the transfer. If neither of those happen, Romano says United will go for the cheaper opinion.

The 'cheaper' option in this instance appears to be Berge. Reports emerged last week that United have held initial discussions with Burnley over a deal for the Norwegian. It's understood that Berge, who has three years left on his contract, is eager to make the switch to Old Trafford this summer. He is valued at around £30m.
