Manuel Ugarte changed opinions in 10 seconds during Manchester United vs West Ham

Every child who plays football is taught that if you lose the ball, try your best to win it back.

Manchester United midfielder Manuel Ugarte seemed to break that golden rule on Sunday.

Ugarte was dispossessed by Mohammed Kudus near the centre circle at Old Trafford, but Kudus had already sprinted to the penalty area by the time Ugarte had finally risen to his feet.

The 24-year-old had no reason to be hurt by Kudus' challenge, which made the time he took to stand back up even more baffling and gave the impression that he couldn't be bothered.

Ugarte should perhaps be given the benefit of the doubt - maybe he'd taken a knock? However, there's no denying the optics weren't good and it certainly didn't go down well with fans.

Ruben Amorim was asked for his thoughts on Ugarte at his post-match conference, but he declined to get stuck into his display and responded: "I don't want to talk about specific players."

There have been good and bad days for Ugarte in his first season in English football since he signed from Paris Saint-Germain for €50million (£42.3m), with a further €10m (£8.5m) in add-ons.

Ugarte is a mobile No.6, someone who can protect the defensive line by intercepting and recovering balls, but his passing leaves a lot to be desired, and there's a conversation about whether United need another player in his position.
