Manchester United youngster Tyler Fletcher switches back to Scotland after England stint

Manchester United youth teamer Tyler Fletcher has switched his national allegiance back to Scotland for a second time.

Fletcher, 16, made his international debut for Scotland in September 2022, then played for England two months later, defected back to Scotland in February before playing with his twin brother, Jack, for England in the triumphant Montaigu Tournament in April.

However, Fletcher played in an Under-17 European Championship qualifier for Scotland against Belarus on Saturday, having joined the United academy in the summer.

Jack Fletcher has also represented Scotland and England at youth level but appears to have settled on England for now but did not play in the U17s' draw with Norway earlier this month.

The Fletcher twins were born in Manchester when their father, Darren, was nearing the peak of his powers in the United midfield. Darren Fletcher attained 80 caps for Scotland.

Scott McTominay, another England-born midfielder, elected to play for Scotland in 2018. Lancaster-born McTominay's father and grandfather are both Scottish.

Jack Fletcher made his debut for the United Under-18s in their 3-1 win against Derby County earlier this month. Tyler is yet to make his competitive bow.
