Manchester United youngster Amad sends cryptic message after missing out on Championship award

Manchester United forward Amad has delivered an ambiguous message after the youngster missed out on the Championship’s Young Player of the Season award.

The accolade instead went to Bristol City's 19-year-old midfielder Alex Scott, who is reportedly being tracked by the likes of Liverpool.

Amad has enjoyed a fine season with the Black Cats, scoring 12 goals in 35 Championship games and is a key starter for Tony Mowbray. The United loanee has become a fan favourite at the Stadium of Light with many impressed by the quality he has shown aged just 20.

The Ivory Coast international consequently received a nomination for the division's Young Player of the Season award alongside Scott and Middlesbrough talent Hayden Hackney.

After the EFL Awards Ceremony at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London, Amad sent a cryptic tweet that seemed to refer to his award snub. “Young player, who?” he tweeted with a series of laughing emojis.

The Manchester Evening News understands Erik ten Hag is considering including Amad in next season’s plans following his successful loan spell. He has already played nine senior games for United, scoring against AC Milan in March 2021, two months after his arrival.

His last first-team appearance came in December 2021 and he is yet to play competitively under Ten Hag.

A shaky loan spell at Rangers during the second half of last season saw him start and win the Scottish Cup final after playing no part in their run to the Europa League final. But he has kicked on under Mowbray at Sunderland who has often waxed lyrical about the youngster.

He believes it will be hard for the club to bring him back next season given his form this term.
