Manchester United will be hoping it's third time lucky after Brentford comeback

Manchester United's 2-1 win over Brentford on Saturday was dramatic and those hoping it could kickstart their season will hope they won't be left disappointed.

Erik ten Hag's side were on course for a seventh defeat in 11 matches at Old Trafford after another underwhelming performance. Mathias Jensen opened to scoring for Brentford inside 26 minutes, capitalising on a string of unforced errors and squeezing a weak effort past Andre Onana.

United were still behind when Scott McTominay came on in the 87th minute, and they remained a goal down when the board went up to show six minutes of added time. But the Scotland international went on to score twice in five minutes, sending the Old Trafford crowd wild.

There has been a lot of talk that the win could kickstart United's campaign, but that feeling was also present after the 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest in August. The Reds went 2-0 down inside four minutes that day, with Bruno Fernandes scoring the winner from the penalty spot on 76 minutes.

“Horror start, but the character of the team was brilliant,” Ten Hag said after that comeback win. “We stayed so calm and so composed. We stuck to our belief, stuck to our plan, played some good football and scored three good goals. It was a great comeback. With all respect to Forest, we can’t allow them [those goals].
