Manchester United vs Liverpool better than Super Bowl, says NFL star

Super Bowl-winning quarterback Ryan Griffin says the atmosphere at a match between Manchester United and Liverpool is better than the NFL showpiece.

The biggest day of the American sporting calendar will be contested between the Cincinnati Bengals and Los Angeles Rams in LA, and is expected to attract a viewing audience of more than 90 million in the United States alone.

United and Liverpool's rivalry has defined English football for the past 30 years, with the Merseyside club being the dominant force until Sir Alex Ferguson firmly, and famously, knocked them off their "perch".

The SoFi Stadium will be hosting tonight's game and can house up to 100,000 fans, but it is the battles at Old Trafford and Anfield which will always provide the better sporting experience, says Griffin.

"Best sporting event I've ever been to. I've been to the Super Bowl, played in it, been to it as a fan, NBA finals, World Series. I went to a Manchester United [vs] Liverpool game, compliments to the Bucs [Tampa Bay Buccaneers], sitting [in the] same row as David Beckham," he told talkSPORT.

"And I had chills the whole game because the fans had all those cheers for the players, former coaches, current coaches.

"There are two security guards between the fan section and they come on 15 minutes left like 'hey, don't get out your seats, you're winning bad, we'll escort you.'

"I've never seen, heard [or] conceptualised anything like that, it was phenomenal and I can't wait to go back to another game."
