Roy Keane sends Richard Arnold message over Manchester United next manager hunt

Roy Keane has criticised Manchester United's methodology behind appointing permanent managers.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer became the latest Reds boss to be axed after he endured a torrid end to his time in charge at Old Trafford with a sobering 4-1 defeat to Watford.

Since Sir Alex Ferguson retired from the post in 2013, there have been four managers relieved of their duties.

With the departure of Ed Woodward, the appointment of Richard Arnold, Ralf Rangnick being set to take a consultancy role from July and the next permanent boss appointed, there is plenty of change afoot at Old Trafford.

However, former Reds skipper Keane has lamented the club's hesitancy.

He said speaking on Gary Neville’s The Overlap YouTube channel: "You look at United over the last few years, you go back to David Moyes when his contract was up at Everton so they brought him in.

"[Louis] Van Gaal was available, didn't cost them any compensation, [Jose] Mourinho was available, obviously Ole was pretty straightforward with his club.

"They won't go and prize a top manager away from a club because people say he's tied down at the club.

"But if they really want a manager, it's like if you want a player, you go and get them. You go and get the manager you think is the right man for the club.

"Not 'well, he's not available for another two years you pay fortunes for players, I don't care who's under contract if you think he's the right manager for Man United, you go and get him, you go an pay whatever it might be."

The Overlap is a YouTube channel from Gary Neville in partnership with Sky Bet.
