Manchester United tracking young goalkeeper in January transfer window

Manchester United are tracking young Queen's Park goalkeeper Callan McKenna.

United often recruit emerging talent to join their academy and they are following the progress of McKenna, who has made nine appearances for Queen's Park this season despite being just 17 years old.

The Manchester Evening News understands United are interested in signing McKenna but that talks are ongoing and nothing concrete has been agreed regarding the youngster's future.

Reports in Scotland suggest United could pay a six-figure sum for McKenna, a fee which could eventually surpass seven figures depending on the performance-related add-ons in a possible deal.

McKenna is also said to be actively attracting interest from other Premier League clubs, including Arsenal and Chelsea.

The goalkeeper played for Hibernian's academy before making the switch to Queen's Park and he's subsequently made progress in their youth set-up to become a member of their first-team squad.

McKenna has also represented Scotland throughout various youth levels and he was selected for the 2023 UEFA European Under-17 Championship.

United have successfully recruited youngsters to join the academy over the last few years, with Alejandro Garnacho, Alvaro Fernandez and Marc Jurado all arriving in the summer of 2020.

More recently, Gabriele Biancheri was signed from Cardiff City's academy and the young striker signed his first professional contract in September.
