Why Manchester United sent youngster Dan Gore on loan to Port Vale

Manchester United agreed to send Dan Gore to Port Vale until the end of the season because of how they play and how they support young players, according to their sporting director.

Last week, the Manchester Evening News revealed Gore was set to join Port Vale on loan and the midfielder's switch was made official on Tuesday night.

Championship side Preston and League One clubs Bolton, Blackpool, Fleetwood and Shrewsbury all showed an interest in Gore, but Port Vale won the race for his signature.

Gore made his debut for United in the win against Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup in September and he captained the Unded-21s in the first half of the season.

He will now get an opportunity to test himself in League One and Port Vale's pitch to secure Gore on loan was behind their success in beating other clubs to his signature.

It's understood United seek assurances when negotiating to send youngsters on loan and Port Vale's director of football David Flitcroft said: “Firstly, I would like to thank Manchester United, Darren Fletcher, Les Parry and Dan’s family for working with us to get this loan move agreed and secured.

"Dan has been on our radar for a while now, and when speaking to Dan and his family you can quickly understand what his cause is. His family are everything to him and he plays for them to make them proud. That is his driver.
