Manchester United ‘tracking’ Sunderland star Chris Rigg plus more transfer rumours

Manchester United are said to be keeping tabs on young Sunderland breakthrough star Chris Rigg after his sensational start to the season.

The 16-year-old hit the headlines in January when he made his Black Cats debut aged just 15. The midfielder has continued to show promise this season by scoring two goals in two senior outings so far.

The England Under-17 international is tipped for a bright future and as he looks to build on his three FA Cup appearances of last season. A report from inews claims United are monitoring his situation.

Erik ten Hag, it says, holds an interest in the young hopeful, who had to take day release while completing his GCSEs to feature for Sunderland last season. The Championship club's North East rivals, Newcastle United, are also apparently taking a keen interest in the teenager.

Meanwhile, former United midfielder Jesse Lingard remains without a club following his release from Nottingham Forest this summer. The playmaker has been linked with a possible move to Saudi Arabia or a potential return to West Ham.

However, claims from website Claret and Hugh says David Moyes has now dismantled his supposed interest in the 30-year-old. Lingard scored nine goals and grabbed five assists in a loan spell at the London Stadium between January and May 2021.

The following summer, he was linked with a return but ultimately stayed at Old Trafford until the end of his contract.

He was linked with West Ham again last summer before signing a surprise one-year deal with Forest. Lingard scored twice and notched two assists in 20 appearances for the East Midlands club.
