Manchester United to consult Ineos on major decisions in January transfer window

Manchester United must consult the Ineos Group on any major decisions they make during the January transfer window.

Ineos may have to wait for up to eight weeks for their £1.3billion investment in United to be ratified. Ineos sporting director Sir Dave Brailsford and former Paris Saint-Germain chief executive Jean-Claude Blanc will join the football board once the deal is completed.

United are already consulting with relevant figures at Ineos over potentially significant changes to the playing staff next month while any decision on manager Erik ten Hag's future would also have to be okayed by Ineos.

Ten Hag oversaw a spirited recovery from United, who recovered from 2-0 down to beat Aston Villa 3-2 on Tuesday night and rise to sixth in the Premier League table, but his future has been under question in recent months.

The state of flux at hierarchical level at United has safeguarded Ten Hag's position despite United suffering 13 defeats - more than in the entirety of last season.

Ineos will assume control of the football operations at the club. and in filings published within minutes of United's victory against Villa, it was stated United could not “appoint, dismiss or accept the resignation of any director of football or first team manager" without discussing it with Ineos head Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

Ineos are planning to replace incumbent football director John Murtough, who could remain at the club in a more administrative role.
