How Manchester United’s attack could look after January transfer window as wildcard signing linked

It is no secret that Manchester United are set to limit spending for a second January in a row due to Financial Fair Play concerns.

United have spent more than £400m during Erik ten Hag’s reign, £157m of which was splashed on Antony and Rasmus Hojlund, who have scored only one Premier League goal between them this season.

Antony, signed in 2022, has yet to find the net since April and has failed to provide an assist since the season began. Marcus Rashford has fallen well below his 30-goal level of last season with just three goals this term while Anthony Martial has tallied just two.

Despite so much being spent, United still need reinforcements in attack. Last year, Ten Hag revealed his annoyance at having a lack of funds to splash in the winter market as Wout Weghorst and Marcel Sabitzer were brought in on loan.

Neither were signed on a permanent basis with both seen as stop-gaps. United will once again have to look for loanee or cut-price deals if they want to bolster their frontline, albeit this time do not have European football to offer.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe has not officially got his feet under the sporting desk amid his 25 per cent stake investment but will be consulted before any transfer decisions are made. The current regime may have to make-do with who they can get this month with finances tight.

United have been linked with interest in several players, although will not be making a move for Timo Werner following his move to Tottenham. Bayern Munich hero Thomas Muller has also reportedly backed down from any interest while Stuttgart striker Serhou Guirassy - who has 19 goals in 16 club games -
