Manchester United takeover news LIVE Sheikh Jassim 'expresses confidence' in Man Utd victory
Another day goes on and Manchester United's proposed takeover looks no closer to completion.
The Glazer family announced their intention to explore the possibility of selling United nearly eight months ago now. And yet, United's owners have not given any sort of update on how the process is going.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani are the two parties hoping to buy the club yet it's still not clear which bidder will emerge successful. But it's not stopping transfer business, as Mason Mount is set to be announced as a United player over the next few days after he announced on Tuesday night he was leaving Chelsea.
A report from Qatari outlet Al Raya claimed on Tuesday it was 'expected that the Manchester United purchase contract will be signed by the Glazer family that owns the club within the next few hours' but we still await any further news.
Follow all day long for the latest on United's takeover.
Reports in Qatar have claimed Manchester United's protracted takeover could reach its conclusion 'in the next few hours'.
The Glazers announced in November their plan to 'seek strategic alternatives' for the Premier League club, with Qatari banker Sheikh Jassim and British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe soon emerging as the frontrunners to take over at Old Trafford. Five rounds of bidding have followed, with Sheikh Jassim setting a self-imposed deadline last month due to his camp feeling the current owners had had ample time to seek or request clarification and revision of the bid.
The Qatari is aiming to take full control of the club, while Ratcliffe is believed to have been seeking a controlling stake that would see the Glazers remain ahead of a phased departure. United's share price has risen by 3.45
