Manchester United takeover news LIVE as Sir Jim Ratcliffe second bid confirmed as Thomas Zilliacus enters running

The Manchester United takeover process entered its next stage on Thursday evening after confirmation of a second bid from Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

A statement from an INEOS spokesperson confirmed a 'revised bid' had been tabled yesterday, after both Ratcliffe and Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad al-Thani were forced to request an extension on the original Wednesday 9pm deadline.

Sheikh Jassim's second offer is yet to be confirmed but Finnish entrepreneur Thomas Zilliacus has announced a unique proposal for supporters in which they would own half of the club.

Elsewhere, three United players featured for their countries on Thursday evening. Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw started for England in their 2-1 win over Italy, although the latter was sent off for two quick-fire yellow cards, while Bruno Fernandes completed another 90 minutes as his Portugal side beat Liechtenstein 4-0.

United have been charged by the FA for failing to control their players during the chaotic red card moment against Fulham last weekend.

The charge relates to United players surrounding referee Chris Kavanagh as they appealed for a penalty after Willian handled the ball on the line in their FA Cup quarter-final tie.

Fulham were the better side for much of their clash but imploded in a 40-second spell that saw manager Marco Silva, Aleksandar Mitrovic and Willian sent off following the decision to award United a penalty.
