Manchester United takeover latest as Sir Jim Ratcliffe 'weighs up bid for minority stake'

Manchester United supporters face the news they will have been dreading as the club's takeover took another twist.

Since November, fans have waited for updates on the state of the Glazers' sale. The American family announced last year they were launching a 'strategic review' into their ownership of the club.

At the time all options were said to be on the table, including a full sale which attracted interest from Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al-Thani. However, the Glazers have just continued to mull over the offers which are on the table and have not announced a preferred bidder.

According to Sky News, self-proclaimed United fan Ratcliffe is weighing up a move for a minority stake in the Reds as he tries to end the stalemate surrounding the takeover. It is claimed the INEOS chief is looking at buying 25 per cent of the American family's shares to become a minority owner of the club.

It is claimed that a bid of around £1.5bn will need to be made by INEOS for the Glazers to accept this proposal. This idea is thought to have been mooted to the family but a new offer has yet been received.

Should this rumour become a reality, the Glazers are almost guaranteed to remain at Old Trafford for the foreseeable.
