The Glazers got it wrong again with three huge errors in Manchester United takeover process

The Manchester United takeover process is finally edging towards a conclusion, although not one many supporters wanted.

Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani's proposal to buy 100 per cent of the club and clear the debts appealed to plenty of fans. However, his withdrawal killed the dream of a total Glazers exit with Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s minority investment keeping them in situ.

Ratcliffe, for the majority of the saga, had wanted to take over the 69 per cent majority which would have seen the current United owners ousted. MEN Sport learned that Avram and Joel Glazer were dragging their heels over selling up their portion of the pie, subsequently causing Ratcliffe to pivot.

Throughout it all, the owners have committed several sins that will only fuel anti-Glazer protests, with three major sticking points.

It will soon be 11 months since the Glazers announced they were exploring strategic alternatives. The Raine Group - the US bankers overseeing the process - hosted several rounds of bidding over a number of months.

Until last week, Sheikh Jassim and Ratcliffe had not heard about the next steps since tabling their revised bids. It is quite clear that the Glazers were unhappy with the offers and hardly showed initiative to speed up the process.

All the while, the takeover cloud has been hovering over Old Trafford and Erik ten Hag. During the summer, money was still spent, it has to be said.

But the amount of time it has taken to reach a decision by trying to hold out for the best deal possible has shown neglect towards the interest of fans.

An official board update has not been given
