Manchester United takeover latest as Rio Ferdinand demands 'clarity' owners

The Manchester United takeover process continues to rumble on and will do so into the next Premier League season.

The process is now in its eighth month after the Glazer family announced they were “commencing a process to explore strategic alternatives” which could lead to a potential sale back in November. Both Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al-Thani and Sir Jim Ratcliffe remain in the race but there has been little progress or clear updates for weeks.

The uncertainty hasn't impacted United's summer transfer business as Erik ten Hag has been able to add Andre Onana, Mason Mount and Rasmus Hojlund to his squad - with the latter set to be confirmed this week - with an outlay of £163million. However, supporters have grown frustrated with the ongoing situation. Here's the latest news:

Ferdinand calls for 'clarity'

Rio Ferdinand claimed the takeover was 'imminent' and a 'matter of hours away' back in mid-June and he has once again moved to express his frustrations over the delays. The former United centre-back has asked for 'clarity' in the process.

"The uncertainty surrounding the ownership isn't good for Manchester United," he said, speaking to Talk Sport. "It isn't good for the fan base at all. I think that needs sorting out. The new owners now, given the way the fan base is at the moment, need some clarity.

"A lot of the time we've asked for transparency from the owners and some real clarity on the direction the club is going to be going in, the infrastructure, the investment etc would be nice. But that hasn't been forthcoming and that's been disappointing from my stand point."
