Manchester United takeover latest as Nice boss gives Sir Jim Ratcliffe approval

Manchester United's takeover process continues to rumble on today as fans await a progress update.

According to The Sun, Sir Jim Ratcliffe has been named as the preferred bidder to buy United. Notably, Ratcliffe's bid is reported to have an option that would see Joel and Avram Glazer remain as minority stakeholders in the club.

This is in contrast to Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani's approach which goes down the full sale route and would see the Glazers leave the club entirely. Ratcliffe is reported to be willing to undergo a clear out of the club's boardroom should his bid be successful, including overseeing chief executive Richard Arnold's exit.

With this in mind, MEN Sport has taken a look at the latest takeover headlines.

Speaking to the media, Didier Digard said: "No, very sincerely [I don't have negative feelings towards Ratcliffe's United bid]. For me, Manchester United is something else.

"I don’t think we’re dependent on that at all. The boss has made such an investment in Nice that, sincerely, if he can give himself the gift of Manchester United, I would be happy for him because we know that it is something that is close to his heart.

"Above all else we know that he won’t disengage from OGC Nice. So, for us, that won’t change anything. I can guarantee to you that people are giving 100 per cent to make this club grow."

According to journalist Ben Jacobs, the Glazers have not decided on their preferred bidder. In a tweet, he wrote: "As of lunch today [Thursday], no group had been informed they are the preferred bidder for Manchester United.

"Feedback is anticipated, but nothing formal as of early Thursday."
