Gary Neville gives Manchester United takeover theory as he slams 'unprofessional' Glazer family

Gary Neville has again blasted the Glazer family's handling of the Manchester United sale process with the takeover still in limbo.

United were first offered for sale in November and over the past six months there has been precious little progress. The two frontrunners, Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani and Sir Jim Ratcliffe, remain keen and have submitted multiple offers. There are reports that the Glazers could stay put in some form while they are seeking £6billion for a full sale.

Meanwhile, United are one game away from concluding their season when they travel to Wembley for an FA Cup final against Manchester City on Saturday. Erik ten Hag's side could claim a second trophy of the campaign having already secured Champions League football for next season.

But with a pivotal summer transfer window approaching, there has been little sign of the takeover being concluded. And Neville, a fierce critic of the owners having labelled the Glazers 'weak, classless and a disgrace' earlier this month, believes the process is being deliberately delayed to avoid a public fan backlash.

Writing on Twitter, Neville said: "Plainly obvious the Glazer family aren’t going to announce anything on the ownership until the season is closed! They’ve been spinning it out unprofessionally for weeks and months now.

"They know fan protests would have been more significant than they already have if matches were still being played and the end result of the sale process is unpopular. Basically any family members staying in would be deemed unacceptable by all fans. Is this why they’re holding off?"
