Fear on the streets as a 14-year-old boy fights for life after being knifed on doorstep in 'sickening attack'

Parents living in a south Manchester neighbourhood say they are now scared to let their kids go out after a teenage boy was stabbed after answering the door.

The 14-year-old boy is currently fighting for his life in hospital as a woman and a teenager continue to be quizzed on suspicion of attempted murder after the 'sickening attack' in Longsight on Monday evening.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said they were called to Stovell Avenue, on the border with Levenshulme, at around 8pm to reports that 'a 14-year-old boy had been stabbed and seriously injured after answering a knock at the door.'

He was rushed to hospital and remains in a critical condition. A 41-year-old woman and 15 boy have been arrested and remain in custody for questioning.

A stretch of the road containing terraced houses remained taped off between Gatling Avenue and Sutcliffe Avenue in the densely populated estate. An alleyway that runs behind the houses also remains taped off with officers standing guard. Officers have been going door-to-door and asking for CCTV or doorbell camera footage as their enquiry 'progresses at a pace.'

The scene directly faces Crowcroft Park Primary School and is just yards away from a second primary school, St Richard's. Detectives say they believe it to be a 'targeted attack' and that there is 'no risk to the wider public.' However many of those living nearby told the Manchester Evening News it had left them shocked and fearful.
