Manchester United's next six games as Erik ten Hag looks to bounce back from horror start

Manchester United have endured a wretched start to the new campaign.

Back-to-back defeats to Brighton and Brentford leave Erik ten Hag's side bottom of the Premier League. The latter setback, in which United were dismantled 4-0 by the Bees, was particularly tough for United supporters to stomach. A stern improvement is expected as they look to improve on last term's below-par finish.

August 22: Liverpool (H)

In the midst of a wretched start to the season, arch-rivals Liverpool were perhaps not the opponents Ten Hag would have chosen had he been given the choice.

The scars are still healing after the chastening defeats to Jurgen Klopp's side last year. An aggregate loss of 9-0 won't be forgotten in a hurry and United have their work cut out to get anything out of this one.

August 27: Southampton (A)

United's last game of the opening month involves a trip to St Mary's. Southampton were comfortably beaten by Tottenham in their first game but showed character to pinch a point against Leeds, coming from 2-0 down.

Despite that, many believe Ralph Hasenhuttl's side could be set for a struggle this term given their lack of firepower and a sizeable squad turnover. History bodes well with United having not tasted defeat in their last 12 league meetings against the Saints.

September 1: Leicester (A)

The timing of this fixture won't be lost on United fans. It comes just hours before the transfer window closes and it appears that events off the field may well dominate the agenda more than proceedings at the King Power Stadium.
