Four issues Manchester United must solve for Erik ten Hag before the transfer window closes

With the transfer window closing on September 1st, Manchester United still have a lot of work to do. The acquisitions of Christian Eriksen, Tyrell Malacia, Lisandro Martinez and Casemiro have already improved Erik ten Hag's options but there is still more the club can do to give him the best chance of winning silverware and earning a Champions League spot.

To this end, most fans are hoping that the next few days will be busy. So let's take a look at the things United can do in the final few days of the transfer window to make sure the team is in the best position for the rest of the season:

Sign a Plan B Goalkeeper

David de Gea hasn't started the season well. He conceded six goals in United's first two games against Brighton and Brentford with a large amount of the blame rightly falling on his shoulders.

He seemed to improve against Liverpool, especially in the shot-stopping department, but it seemed like Ten Hag had done away with his tactic of playing out from the back in favour of booting it long and attempting to win it back higher up the pitch. It worked against Jurgen Klopp's weakened side, there are no guarantees it would work again.

To that end, United need to sign competition for De Gea. Be it Martin Dubravka from Newcastle or a more inspired option, the club can't go into the rest of the 2022/23 season completely relying on the Spanish goalkeeper; if they do it could prove costly.
