Manchester United's Hannibal Mejbri sends message to former teammate after Premier League debut

Hannibal Mejbri showed some love to former Manchester United academy teammate Teden Mengi, who made his Premier League debut in Luton Town's 2-1 win at Everton on Saturday.

Mengi ended his 14-year spell at United this summer after agreeing to join the Hatters on a permanent deal. The 21-year-old had spent time on loan at Derby County and Birmingham City but opted for a permanent exit in search of more regular football.

Rob Edwards' side offered him the chance of Premier League football and a top-flight debut came at Goodison Park on Saturday. The Reds academy graduate came on 10 minutes into the second half, helping his side record a first win of the season against the Toffees.

Mengi posted a number of pictures from the day alongside the caption: "Premier League debut (tick emoji) First win (tick emoji) Enjoy your evening Hatters!"

And Hannibal was one of several former Reds academy teammates to congratulate the defender, writing 'en PATRON' which translates to 'as a boss'. The likes of Shola Shoretire, Anthony Elanga, Ethan Laird and Zidane Iqbal also sent their best wishes to the defender.

Mengi was a much-loved figure at United, having been with the club for such a long time. But having made just two senior appearances for the Reds, he decided a move away was the best decision for his individual career.

Speaking about his transfer to MUFC media in August, Mengi said: "From signing for the club that I supported, to playing for them in the Champions League, it has been an incredible journey over the last 15 years.
