Manchester United's Bruno Fernandes responds to goal criticism after scoring vs Southampton

Manchester United's Bruno Fernandes has promised to score more goals after scoring his first of the season.

Fernandes contributed 10 goals and 14 assists across all competitions last season and that was a disappointment for a player with such high standards. Fernandes has been talismanic during his time at the club and he was prolific in front of goal until last term.

The 27-year-old scored against Southampton on Saturday afternoon and that goal got him off the mark in the new campaign. Fernandes' strike was an outstanding half-volley from the edge of the box, which was expertly placed in the bottom right corner.

Fernandes was interviewed after the match and he looked delighted to score his first of the season. The midfielder faced some criticism for not scoring enough last term, but he has vowed to improve his tally this time around for the club.

"I think in the first half we had some control, we created more chances than them," Fernandes told MUTV.

"In the second half, we did well in the first 15 minutes, obviously after we scored the goal we dropped a little bit and give much space to them to build from the back, but the first 15 minutes from us was really intense, really good and that's why we got the goal.

"Even when we score, we should be a little bit more proactive and try to play more. I said many times don't worry, when the first one comes, I will score much more. Hopefully I can do it and help the team, that is the most important thing."
