Manchester United receive huge double boost ahead of Community Shield vs Man City

Manchester United players Luke Shaw and Kobbie Mainoo returned to Carrington on Monday morning.

Shaw and Mainoo both started in the final of the European Championship on July 14 as England suffered a 2-1 defeat against Spain and they were given extra time off to recover.

The pair were allowed to enjoy a holiday after their international commitments, but Shaw and Mainoo returned to training on Monday and could start in the Community Shield.

United's pre-season tour of the United States concluded last weekend and the players flew back to Manchester immediately after that game. Those who represented United on the tour are set to return to full training on Wednesday to prepare for Saturday's clash with Manchester City.

The Community Shield is contested by the FA Cup and Premier League winners, and United are looking to claim another victory over City after their stunning win in May.

Shaw last played for United on February 18 when he sustained a muscle injury that meant he missed the remainder of the season and the Euro 2024 group stage.

The defender made his first appearance of the tournament at the quarter-final stage against Switzerland and was introduced at half-time in the semi-finals against the Netherlands.

Shaw was selected to start the Euro 2024 final against Spain at the Olympiastadion in Berlin and he made the starting XI alongside Mainoo, whose role for the Three Lions increased as the tournament progressed.
