Manchester United player who made five Premier League starts is fighting transfer flop status

Mason Mount looked crestfallen when he left the Brentford Community Stadium in March.

Mount scored on his return from a four-month lay-off due to a calf injury and thought he'd produced the matchwinner for Manchester United deep into injury time.

Brentford dominated United that night, recording 31 shots, and scored a deserved equaliser in the ninth minute of added time. Kristoffer Ajer's goal denied Mount a watershed moment and he politely declined a request to speak to a reporter as he exited for the team bus.

Raphael Varane was the only United player to speak as he walked through the mixed zone and the Frenchman provided a succinct update on his injury after his substitution.

It wasn't a surprise that nobody wanted to speak. The points may have been shared, but United had been fortunate not to be losing 4-0 at half-time and they still found a way to throw away an unlikely win, despite Mount seeming to have stolen victory in the sixth minute of injury time.

There were three minutes between United taking the lead and Brentford scoring with practically the last kick of the game and the dressing room was deflated, naturally.

However, Mount had more reason than others to feel bitter disappointment. He'd just returned from a lengthy period on the sidelines and scoring the matchwinner could have put his United career back on track, but his brilliantly taken goal had been made redundant.
