Manchester United need to offload three players from one position in summer transfer window

When it comes to shifting the deadwood, there can't be too many clubs with more of it to move than Manchester United this summer.

United's squad is awash with players whose careers have either stalled or simply have no futures at Old Trafford. The squad has become bloated and riddled with players who are simply not up to the standard required for a club of the Reds' stature.

Manager Erik ten Hag, who is yet to add any new faces to his squad this summer, wants to be ruthless in this summer's window when it comes to having a much-needed clearout. He knows the game is up for countless members of his squad and that they need to cut their cloth.

But as has been well-documented on countless occasions, United's track record when it comes to offloading players at the right time leaves a lot to be desired. They stockpile players, leaving the squad knee-deep in unwanted options.

This summer, however, that trend has to change. Ten Hag is trying to mastermind a plan that will hopefully see United offload many of their fringe players, though is easier said than done.

Some areas within the squad do need more attention and trimming than others, including out wide, where the Reds currently have seven recognisable wingers within their ranks. United also have too many left-backs on their books, with the current tally of recognisable left-sided full-backs standing at five.

Luke Shaw, Tyrell Malacia and Brandon Williams were the club's registered left-backs during the 2022/23 campaign, but the returns of Alex Telles and Alvaro Fernandez from their respective loan spells at Sevilla and Preston North End has seen that figure increase further. It is an unsustainable
