Manchester United need one of their injured stars back quicker than the others

Manchester United's growing injury crisis is hitting unprecedented levels for so early into a season.

Erik ten Hag has a whole starting XI of players unavailable to him at the moment. Two of those are due to off-the-field issues but to have nine injuries just over a month into the campaign, to crucial players too, is something that can hardly be accounted for.

Along with off-field controversies and deflating results, it's helped throw the opening of United's season into chaos. Any more ailments could be too much to bear and Ten Hag is right to be worried, even if he remained confident his side can deal with it.

"Of course, it's a concern but that's why we knew that before and that's why we constructed the squad with depth, so we can deal with it, the squad can deal with it and the squad can deal with it.

"I don't know if we have to go to the doctors or officials because they are dealing with the problems. First of all, injuries always come in top football because we're living on the edge and when you're living on the edge, injuries are coming up.

"We analyse why things happen but also we have to deal with the facts and it's always about the players who are available and to have a strong side and we have to get the best out of it and tomorrow get a good team."

There is at least some good news on the horizon. Raphael Varane and Mason Mount were back in training this week and though they weren't available for Wednesday's trip to Bayern Munich they should hopefully be back in the fold soon. Of the remaining players still sidelined, Amad Diallo is the one United could do back sooner than anyone
