Raphael Varane sends message to Marcus Rashford and Manchester United attackers vs Galatasaray
Raphael Varane has called on Manchester United’s attackers to be more prolific ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League clash with Galatasaray.
United have scored just two goals in their last three league matches, although they netted three apiece against Bayern Munich in Europe and Crystal Palace in the League Cup during that period. The Reds had 19 shots at goal in Saturday’s 1-0 Premier League loss to Palace but just four were on target.
Defensive midfielder Casemiro is United’s top scorer across all competitions so far this season with four goals, the same tally United’s strikers and attackers have netted between them. Marcus Rashford, who scored 30 last season, has only one goal in eight outings.

United’s inability to find the net despite creating a number of chances was a consistent theme throughout last season and it has re-emerged. Across their six games in September, the Reds scored just nine times from 77 shots.
Meanwhile, United have kept just three clean sheets in their nine games, conceding 15 goals and Varane is keen for improvements at both ends of the pitch. When asked by club media if United need to fix their failings at the top end of the pitch, he said: “Yes exactly, I think we have to be better in the two boxes. In front of goal we have to be more efficient. We create a lot but we don’t score enough.
“In the very low number of [chances] against us, we concede. So that’s the key we focus on. We are working on it to improve and to get the points, that’s our target.”
