Manchester United must prioritise midfielder sale after explosive loan spell and 'manager fall out'

"Next season will be something special," said Hannibal Mejbri in a recent social media post.

Hannibal was put through his paces with a private fitness coach this summer before the official start of Manchester United's pre-season, which saw the squad report to Carrington on Monday.

He trained with his former United teammates Teden Mengi and Anthony Elanga and both of those players have proven themselves in the Premier League since leaving the club.

Hannibal is likely to take a leaf out of their books and also leave United. He spent the second half of last season on loan with Sevilla but played just 100 minutes across six appearances and is actively looking to get his career back on track after that disappointing spell in Spain.

Hannibal's loan got off to a bizarre start when Sevilla announced he wouldn't be considered for selection just over a week after his arrival and the picture gradually got murkier. There were reports of differences between Hannibal and manager Quique Sánchez Flores and a suggestion he had a bust-up with a teammate during a training session.

Sevilla's president reacted and said: "I think things have been blown out of proportion a little. We are very excited about Hannibal. The sports management team chose him, he is one of the signings from January that excites us the most and we are convinced he is going to make it at Sevilla.

"I feel like everything has its processes. He’s only been here a couple of weeks, it’s a new country, a new culture, a new city, a different way of training, a different coaching style."
