Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen sends message to Tom Lockyer following cardiac arrest

Christian Eriksen has wished Tom Lockyer the best in his recovery and urged the Luton Town captain to take time before making a decision on his future after he suffered a cardiac arrest on Saturday.

Lockyer collapsed during the second-half of Luton's Premier League game against Bournemouth, with the match eventually postponed. It is the second such incident suffered in eight months by the 29-year-old, who underwent heart surgery after collapsing during the May play-off final win over Coventry City.

Eriksen was in a similar position while representing Denmark during the European Championships in 2021, collapsing on the pitch in a game against Finland. The midfielder was given CPR on the pitch and fitted with an Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD).

Having left Inter Milan - where he was prohibited from playing due to having the ICD fitted - he joined Brentford on a free transfer and then moved to Manchester United in July 2022. It is a remarkable comeback from the 31-year-old, who has urged Lockyer to take on advice from doctors and family before making any major decisions.

"Well first of all, I hope he's okay," Eriksen told Betfred. "I've read and seen what's happened and I hope he's okay, takes his time, is in a healthy way and his family are there to support him. I cross my fingers that he's fine.

"My advice to him would be to make the best decision you can. Listen to the doctors and if [they] tell you to maybe do something else then respect that.

"There's nothing that's going to hold you back, but in the end it all depends on how he's feeling and what the doctors are saying.
