Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is making the same mistakes as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

"David Moyes says #mufc must improve in a number of areas, including passing, creating chances and defending," is an infamous tweet from Manchester United and it applies 10 years later.

United had lost successive games at Old Trafford against Everton and Newcastle when Moyes made that comment and he was sacked a few months later with the club treading water in the Premier League.

The 2013/14 season was joyless and there have been many more dark campaigns since. The infamous tweet keeps cropping up and it's a succinct description of the problems Erik ten Hag is currently facing.

Ten Hag enjoyed an excellent first year in Manchester, but the wheels have spectacularly fallen off and the 2-1 defeat against Nottingham Forest has further increased the pressure on his position.

Although there was no appetite to see Ten Hag sacked due to goodwill in the bank, a lack of alternatives and the ownership remaining the same, the landscape has changed.

United cannot appoint, dismiss, or accept the resignation of any director of football or first-team manager without discussing it with Ratcliffe, who has a history of sacking coaches at OGC Nice.

The British billionaire has sacked five managers since taking over Nice in the 2019/20 season and although Ten Hag is not under immediate threat, there is recognition that results must improve.

United have made their worst start to a season since
