Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag hints why Alejandro Garnacho went down the tunnel at Brentford

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag insisted Alejandro Garnacho was "okay" despite his early substitution in the Premier League draw with Brentford.

Garnacho was replaced by Antony in the 59th minute at the Community Stadium, headed straight down the tunnel and did not re-emerge for the remainder of the match.

The 19-year-old started in Argentina's friendly victory over Argentina in Los Angeles on Tuesday night and flew back in time for United's training session at Carrington on Thursday.

"He is okay," Ten Hag assured. "Of course, he had a heavy trip but he is okay."

Ten Hag also clarified Raphael Varane's removal at the interval was precautionary. Varane made way for Harry Maguire. Fellow centre back Victor Lindelof was forced off in the 69th minute and Lisandro Martinez emerged for his first appearance in eight weeks after recovering from medial collateral ligament damage.

Lindelof will be assessed on Sunday ahead of United's next Premier League fixture away to Chelsea on Thursday.

"I can't tell," Ten Hag said when asked about the extent of the injuries. "We took Rapha off as a precaution at half-time and Victor we have to assess tomorrow."

United are now 11 points adrift of fourth-placed Aston Villa, who occupy the final guaranteed Champions League qualifying place in the Premier League table.

Tottenham are fifth, which could secure qualification for the tournament if England finish in the top two of the Uefa seasonal coefficients. Spurs are eight points clear of United, who have nine games remaining.
