Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag explains what went wrong vs West Ham

Erik ten Hag lamented Manchester United's profligacy after a third defeat in four games at West Ham.

United have won one of their last seven matches and have failed to score in the last four for the first time since November 1992.

Alejandro Garnacho squandered a one-on-one with West Ham 'keeper Alphonse Areola with the game goalless in the first half and West Ham took the lead through Jarrod Bowen in the 72nd minute.

Rasmus Hojhlund has failed to score in 14 Premier League appearances, winger Antony is without a goal since April and Garnacho's only league goal was his overhead kick at Everton last month.

Hojlund was replaced by Marcus Rashford before the hour but Rashford has scored two goals all season and his last from open play was on September 3.

Scott McTominay remains United's top scorer on a modest six goals and United have now played 18 and scored 18 in the Premier League.

"We didn't score the goal," Ten Hag said. "The meaning of the first goal. I think we control the game, didn't give West Ham United anything.

"We created three good chances, we didn't take them, one moment of switching off and we are down, we are losing the game. I think that is how I see the performance.

"As I said before, we have players who can [score], they proved it in the past they can do it. But we also have to acknowledge the facts that we didn't do as a team and we have to take responsibility and of course, football is about winning games and is about scoring goals.
