Manchester United loanee Dean Henderson confirms injury setback after surgery

Manchester United loanee Dean Henderson has confirmed he will miss the remainder of the season after undergoing surgery on a thigh injury.

Henderson has spent the campaign on loan at newly-promoted Nottingham Forest and was an ever-present at the City Ground until a thigh tear against Leicester City in January.

The 26-year-old has not played for three-and-a-half months since, with the decision being made at the start of May to undergo surgery - a move which could keep him out well into the summer.

On Tuesday evening, the goalkeeper posted a picture on his Instagram in a hospital robe and on crutches, alongside the caption: "Had surgery today on an ongoing issue. I’m disappointed to miss the rest of the season but surgery went well and I will be back for pre season. I will be supporting the boys for the remainder of the season!! Let’s go YOU REDS".

United are expected to sell Henderson this summer, with the goalkeeper vocal in his disappointment at te treatment he received under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The Norwegian had promised to install Henderson as the No.1 but went back on those plans after the shot-stopper contract Covid-19.

He was blocked from joining Watford last January before eventually leaving for Forest last summer, expressing his discontent at spending a season on the bench with just three appearances across all competitions.

Erik ten Hag held a meeting with Henderson in January of this year to explore the possibility of recall, following the return of Martin Dubravka to Newcastle United, although the on-loan man was not keen on returning just to play back-up again.
