Manchester United icon Wayne Rooney's six-word warning to Jamie Carragher
Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has claimed he met Manchester United icon Wayne Rooney for the first time when he was just 14 years old in a nightclub.
Rooney is arguably one of the most naturally gifted footballers England have ever produced and United had him on their books for 13 years. After becoming a shining light at Everton, the teenager signed for the Reds in 2004 for just shy of £30m.
In the years which followed, the striker would score 253 goals for the club and work his way up to captain during his time at Old Trafford. However, before Rooney had caught the world's attention, he was making an impression on the Liverpool football scene, particularly with Carragher.

Reminiscing about meeting Rooney for the very first time, Carragher told the Scouse House podcast: "To be honest I’d heard his name a little bit, but he introduced himself to me. This was in a nightclub.
"I must have only been about 20, he’d have been only been about 14. He come up to me. He was quite funny: 'I’m Rooney, watch out for me'.
"I don't know, it was something like that, it was along them lines but he was just being his typical, mischievous self, but he was a typical Scouser - on the front foot, fancied himself, and why not when you’ve got ability like that?" After retiring from football in 2021, Rooney has since gone into the world of football management.
