Manchester United icon slams Jamie Carragher for criticism of Man City star Erling Haaland

Former Manchester United striker Andy Cole has questioned Jamie Carragher's recent criticism of Manchester City's Erling Haaland.

Last week, Carragher, penning a column for The Telegraph, confirmed that he would be voting for Marcus Rashford for his Player of the Year, telling Haaland to 'step aside'. The Norwegian, who joined City from Borussia Dortmund last summer, has been simply sensational this season, scoring 33 goals in as many games in all competitions.

His strike in Saturday's 4-1 win over Bournemouth marked his 27th Premier League goal of the campaign, meaning he is only seven away from equalling the record number of goals scored (34) in a single Premier League season. Alan Shearer and Cole currently hold the record for their respective efforts.

Carragher, following a recent dip in form from Haaland which saw him score one goal in four matches prior to the win at Bournemouth, questioned his suitability for City's style of play. However, Cole has since criticised the former Liverpool man for his claims, making it clear that Haaland's return in front of goal this season proves he is anything but unsuitable for Pep Guardiola's side.

"People like Jaime Carragher say things just to say things," Cole told Best Sports Betting Canada. "If Erling Haaland continued his form from the start of the season, there would be no question that he made the wrong choice in joining Manchester City.
