Ian Wright makes 'tough' Arsenal admission after Man City masterclass from Pep Guardiola

Match of the Day pundit Ian Wright admits Arsenal must learn from their mistakes as Manchester City now have their Premier League title defence in their own hands after beating the league leaders.

Despite Arsenal remaining two points clear atop the table, City have two matches in hand over Mikel Arteta's team due to their run to the FA Cup final. Pep Guardiola's side can now afford one loss across their remaining seven league matches and still become back-to-back-to-back champions.

Arsenal have dropped nine points over their last four matches, which has seen City move into pole position as the final month of the season approaches. Wright acknowledges that the run of those previous results is the reason behind the north London club making it difficult for themselves in the title race, rather than just their 4-1 defeat away in east Manchester.

"It's tough," Wright admitted on Wednesday night's Match of the Day. "The reason is, is that, when you look at the Liverpool, the West Ham and the Southampton (draws), you needed six points out of them, at least, so you can get into this game (with a buffer).

"That's what it is (that has hurt them), and that's what they'll learn from. We're talking about a team that learnt a lot from last year. So onwards and upwards for that team."

On the match against City, the pundit highlighted Guardiola's pressing plan as key to the win. He said: "It was so well organised that there was no time for someone to get their foot on the ball. They were too intense, and they rattled Arsenal at the start with how they came at them and continued to go at them.
