Manchester United 'held strong interest in Nicolo Barella' and other transfer rumours

Manchester United reportedly held a 'strong interest' in Inter Milan midfielder Nicolo Barella during the summer transfer window.

Midfield was one of the key areas Erik ten Hag had listed as needing improvement in the summer and set about looking to strengthen. United brought in Mason Mount permanently from Chelsea and Sofyan Amrabat on loan from Fiorentina for the season in a bid to do this.

However, struggles have continued in the centre and neither Mount nor Amrabat have been able to conduct much of an impact due to injury. According to TuttoMercatoWeb, Barella was a name on the Reds' shortlist.

The 26-year-old is one of the stand out players in Simone Inzaghi's team and was seen as an influential player in their run to the Champions League final. It is claimed interest was there in Barella but no offer was submitted.

The Italian media outlet doubts Barella would have moved to Old Trafford due to the club's financial constraints and how much Inter rate their man.

Elsewhere, a report from Sport claims Erik ten Hag is tracking Royal Antwerp midfielder Arthur Vermeeren ahead of a possible future move. The 18-year-old is due to face Barcelona on Tuesday in the Champions League.

The Belgium Under-21s international has already tallied two assists in nine games - the same amount he recorded last term in 40 matches. He lifted the Belgian title with Antwerp last season.

One of the stand-out kits of the new season, the base colour of the adidas shirt is green with white stripes and maroon lines ensuring United will boast one of the most eye-catching shirts in the game for the 2023/2024 campaign.
