Manchester United have sent Marcus Rashford a brutal warning with transfer decision

Manchester United's Marcus Rashford admitted last month that he had enjoyed a 'priceless' pre-season after such a disappointing campaign. Rashford had the opportunity to take a genuine break, he got engaged to his partner and he was finally injury free.

Rashford looked relaxed as he talked to reporters in Australia, explaining that he had mentally and physically recovered ahead of the new season. Rashford looked devoid of confidence last term, scoring just five goals and recorded two assists, and his self-assessment in Perth was promising. It was hoped the player's better preparation and Erik ten Hag's influence would get him back to his best.

The 24-year-old exploded onto the first-team stage in 2016 with a sensational debut against Midtjylland in the Europa League and he's been an established member of the dressing room ever since. But his last two seasons at the club haven't been worthy of that status.

Rashford won consecutive Player of the Month awards at United in November and December 2019. He sustained a back injury in January 2020 and he hasn't been the same player in the post-pandemic world, despite overcoming his fitness concerns.

Rashford scored 11 goals in the Premier League in 2020/21 and that tally worsened to just four league goals last season. He developed an unwanted habit of becoming anonymous in matches and he was consistently ineffective on the left side. Ralf Rangnick never trusted Rashford and that cost him his starting place under the German; Rashford became familiar with the bench.
