Manchester United fans mock Virgil van Dijk with brutal nickname after Liverpool horror show

Fans continue to mock Virgil van Dijk after the Liverpool defender struggled to cope with impressive Manchester United during their statement win at Old Trafford on Monday night.

After slipping to back-to-back defeats against Brighton and Brentford in their first two fixtures, United are up and running under Erik ten Hag. Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford did the damage before Mohamed Salah responded in a 2-1 verdict which leaves Van Dijk and the Reds winless after three games.

Sancho netted the opener for United on 16 minutes in a moment which prompted supporters to take aim at Van Dijk in brutal fashion on social media. After some fleet-footed trickery afforded Sancho time and space in the area, the centre-back stood there with arms behind his back.

Despite keeping tabs on Rashford during the opening 45 minutes, Van Dijk was unable to contend with United and, also, failed to make a successful tackle throughout the fixture. He was passed by Rashford and Antony Martial upon the restart and later found himself on the receiving end of a rant from Liverpool teammate James Milner.

Of course, that heated moment merely added fuel to the fire for United supporters as they mocked Van Dijk as well as noting how well summer signing Lisandro Martinez had played alongside Raphael Varane on the same night. Here are a selection of comments posted on Twitter;
