Manchester United have just unlocked the key to improving Casemiro's form

Casemiro holds himself to the highest of standards and he hasn't been at his best for Manchester United in this campaign.

The midfielder was instrumental in winning a trophy and returning Champions League football to Old Trafford last season and he still had claims to be the best in his position in the world, but he's not looked himself over the last few weeks.

It's a running joke in the Brazilian media that Casemiro loves a barbecue, something which the player has embraced, and his fitness was questioned following the opening games.

Casemiro's passing has also been uncharacteristically sloppy and ironically, his overall performance against Bayern Munich in the Champions League was disappointing despite the midfielder scoring a late brace.

Those goals took the spotlight away from his display to some extent, but Casemiro would have returned to Manchester knowing he was capable of passing better and disrupting the opposition more than he did at the Allianz Arena.

It's no coincidence that United enjoy their best results when Casemiro is imperious. He was magnificent playing in a settled midfield for Erik ten Hag last season and the overhaul of that area might have contributed to his dip in form.

United started the campaign with Casemiro, Mason Mount and Bruno Fernandes as the three and the midfield was unbalanced, suddenly going from the team's biggest strength to something that required urgent attention.

Mount is not a natural No.8 and his positional awareness was lacking in his first two appearances against Wolves and Tottenham, which left Casemiro to almost single-handedly deal with transitions from the opposition.
