Micah Richards outlines how Oscar Bobb's Man City development might be at risk

Former defender Micah Richards believes Manchester City's exit from the Carabao Cup risks denting Oscar Bobb's chances of storing more minutes under his belt.

The 20-year-old made his first City start as they were knocked out of the competition at the first hurdle by Newcastle United at St James' Park on Wednesday night. Alexander Isak netted the only goal of the game to secure a 1-0 win for the Magpies and their route to the fourth round of the competition.

City manager Pep Guardiola, who has guided the club to four Carabao Cup crowns during his tenure, made the decision to freshen up his pack on Tyneside, making eight changes. Youngster Bobb, who has made two Premier League appearances from the bench so far this season, was one of the lucky beneficiaries, being awarded his full debut.

He started in the No.10 role and produced an eye-catching performance, featuring plenty of promise and potential. However, City's exit from the competition, in the eyes of former Blues ace Richards, means that he could now struggle to get another chance to leave his calling card.

"I thought Kalvin Phillips did really well considering he has not played a lot of football," Richards told The Rest of Football podcast. "But Oscar Bobb, the forward, the left-footer for City, he was outstanding.

"His close control, weight of pass, everything about his game, he was buzzing, lovely little touches around the corner, but the problem is now you are probably not going to see a lot of these players again.
