Manchester United have four weeks to solve early problems or Reds run risk of season unravelling

Manchester United are only 180 minutes into the season and yet there are several important season markers on the horizon.

Underwhelming displays against Wolves - albeit in a winning cause - and Tottenham have soured the mood at Old Trafford and beyond. Of course, the Premier League giants are by no means at panic stations.

However, with the summer transfer window deadline looming and the first international break now around the corner, there is a tricky and, potentially campaign-shaping passage, for Ten Hag to navigate.

With a winnable game against Nottingham Forest at home to come this weekend, the final outing before the international break comes at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday week when last season's runners-up Arsenal will be desperate to put down their own marker.

United will have anywhere between three and nine points in the bag but Manchester City and the Gunners could have a maximum 12 to their name. Either way, as September comes into focus, United's four-pronged assault will flick into overdrive.

The Premier League resumes against Brighton on Saturday, September 16 which, in isolation, is expected to be another tough assignment given how well the Seagulls have started. Burnley and Crystal Palace follow quickly enough in the top-flight on consecutives Saturdays by which juncture United will have kicked their first ball in the Champions League and begun their defence of the League Cup.
