Tributes pour in as WWE superstar, 36, dies

WWE wrestler Bray Wyatt has "unexpectedly passed" at the age of 36. Wyatt, whose real name is Windham Rotunda had been out of action due to an undisclosed health issue.

The news of his death was announced by WWE's chief content officer Triple H on social media where he told fans the "tragic news" news that Rotunda "unexpectedly passed" on Thursday (August 24).

On X, formerly known as Twitter, Triple H wrote: "Just received a call from WWE Hall of Famer Mike Rotunda who informed us of the tragic news that our WWE family member for life Windham Rotunda - also known as Bray Wyatt - unexpectedly passed earlier today.

"Our thoughts are with his family and we ask that everyone respect their privacy at this time."

According to reports from wrestling reporter, Sean Ross, Wyatt died of a heart attack. WWE superstars of past and present have taken to social media to pay tributes to Wyatt who was a three-time WWE Champion.

Among them was wrestling legend turned movie star Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson who wrote on X: "I'm heartbroken over the news of Bray Wyatt’s passing. Always had tremendous respect and love for him and the Rotunda family.

"Loved his presence, promos, in ring work and connection with WWE universe. Very unique, cool and rare character, which is hard to create in our crazy world of pro wrestling.

"Still processing losing the goat, Terry Funk yesterday and now Bray today. My love, light, strength & mana to the Rotunda family and Funk family during this tough, heartbreaking time. As always, ‘thank you for the house.’"

Born in Brooksville, Florida, Wyatt came from a wrestling family that included his father Mike Rotunda
