Manchester United have discussed a new option on right wing

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag says Mason Mount is under consideration to fill the team's problematic right-hand side role.

United signed Mount for £60million from Chelsea but he sustained a muscular injury in his second appearance and has been sidelined for five weeks.

Mount resumed team training in midweek and the 24-year-old is in contention to make his return in the Premier League fixture away to Burnley on Saturday evening.

With Antony absent indefinitely amid allegations of domestic abuse and Mason Greenwood no longer under consideration for selection, United are shot of an experienced right winger.

Jadon Sancho has been banished from the first team squad pending the outcome of a disciplinary issue, Amad is recovering from a knee problem while Facundo Pellistri made only his second United start in two years in the defeat to Bayern Munich on Wednesday night.

Mount excelled as a right-sided forward in a front three for Chelsea but he was recruited to occupy a central midfield role for United. With the £86.3m Antony unavailable and midfielder Sofyan Amrabat nearing full fitness, Mount could be relocated to the right.

"Also this has been discussed before," Ten Hag said of a possible positional switch for Mount, "but we have options on the right and we will see how we fill it in.

"We have the options but also they have to be available and then you have to get the routines in. But the principles and rules - they are clear."

Bayern Munich scored within four minutes of United's first and second goals on Wednesday night and Arsenal
