Manchester United have been smart with controversial Alejandro Garnacho decision

It's hard to make the long-awaited first signing of the summer feel a little disappointing but Manchester United managed it - even if it's nothing against Mason Mount.

It's been a stressful start to the transfer window but United finally got a top target on Tuesday by confirming the arrival of Mount from Chelsea in a deal that could reach £60million. It must be a great relief to Erik ten Hag who had been desperate to add further class and versatility to his midfield ranks.

Though Mount has struggled over the last 18 months he is not alone in being unable to find his best form at a chaotic Chelsea, he remains a very talented player and at still just 24 has plenty of years to improve and thrive at Old Trafford. Though Casemiro and Christian Eriksen were the driving force behind United's dramatic improvement last season, the duo are both in their 30s and United's lack of quality options when they were unavailable became apparent.

Mount should fix that issue which makes it a very exciting signing, one that supporters were delighted with when it was finally made official. But one thing that left a little bit of a sour taste, at least initially, is his shirt number.
