Manchester United shirt numbers available to Mason Mount as £60m transfer agreed

Mason Mount will become a Manchester United player and could request the famous number seven shirt at Old Trafford.

After protracted negotiations, a deal to sign the Englishman for £55million with £5million in add-ons has been agreed. Mount will become United's first signing of the summer transfer window.

The 24-year-old was Ten Hag's first-choice recruit to bolster his midfield options. United held their nerve in negotiations and finally found a compromise with Chelsea, who wanted £65million despite there only being one year left on Mount's contract.

After the formalities of a medical and the paperwork, Mount will join his new team-mates when they return for pre-season training. He will give Ten Hag more flexibility in midfield and could provide a number of tactical fits.

As with any new signing, Mount could have his pick of the numbers at Old Trafford. The obvious standout vacant number is the seven shirt, left by Cristiano Ronaldo. United are considering handing that to Alejandro Garnacho, who would be the first teenager to don the seven since the Portuguese international in 2003.

However, a request from Mount could tip the balance. The number 11 shirt is also potentially available, although United have not made a decision on Mason Greenwood's future and are considering loaning him out.

A number knock-on could make 19 available for Mount, which he wore at Chelsea and has donned for England. Raphael Varane requested Phil Jones' number four after signing at Old Trafford.
